Marketing departments often struggle with “static” budgeting—where funds are locked into silos at the start of the fiscal year. Our client needed a way to manage high-volume project spending while allowing for real-time mid-year adjustments, inter-project transfers, and cross-departmental approvals without leaving the Workfront ecosystem.
solution
Using Adobe Workfront as the system of record and Adobe Fusion as the logic engine, we engineered a custom Financial Management Framework that treats budget as a living entity.
1. Cost Center Mapping
We configured custom objects to represent Cost Centers.
- One-to-Many Relationship: Every project is mapped to a single Cost Center.
- Budget Baseline: Each Cost Center is initialized with an annual allocation, providing a clear financial ceiling.
2. Budget Revisions
Business environments change. We built a “Revision” module that allows authorized users to perform mid-year budget cuts or injections.
- Fusion automatically recalculates the Current Budget based on the baseline minus/plus any formal revisions.
3. Inter-Project Transfers
To prevent budget stagnation, we enabled Project Owners to move funds between projects.
- Intra-Cost Centre: Transfers between projects in the same center are processed instantly.
- Cross-Centre: If a transfer crosses the boundary of two different Cost Centers, Adobe Fusion triggers an automated approval workflow. The “donor” Cost Center owner must digitally sign off before the funds are moved.
